INVITATION

INVITATION – ICC & Public Image Summit Athens 2025

Dear Rotarian Friends,

The International ICC & Public Image Summit, to be held in Athens from November 13–16, 2025, is not just an event—it marks a major moment for Rotary International in Greece.

Prominent Rotary leaders from around the world will be with us.
It will be a gathering of leaders, ideas, and shared missions.

A gathering with a clear purpose: to demonstrate what Rotary means in action—unity, service, impact, and peace for the benefit of peoples.

This year, Greece—with its radiant light and rich culture—becomes the symbol of this revival.

And we are all called to welcome our fellow Rotarians and host them as true Rotarians should: with pride, dignity, enthusiasm, and unity.

Let us all come together—
Not just to attend, but to take the lead.
To show that Rotary is active, strong, and visible.

The Organizing Committee warmly awaits you in Athens for a constructive, high-quality conference, filled with friendship—and the spirit of Greece.

Timeline 13 - 16 November 2025

Thursday, November 13, 2025

Partıcıpants and their companions who are already in Athens and wish to do so can join us for dinner at the traditional restaurant Magemenos Avlos. Traditional Greek dishes, live music, and dancing.

Friday, November 14, 2025

In the morning, we are organizing an optional excursion – a visit to Ancient Corinth, the Corinth Canal, and Loutraki. Transportation will be by coach. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by the Rotary Club of Corinth and guided through the archaeological site by an experienced guide. Lunch will follow at a local restaurant and return to Athens to get ready for the official opening of our Conference in the afternoon.

In the afternoon at 18:00, in formal dress (black tie), we will meet at the Armed Forces Officers’ Club – L.A.E.D. (Sarogleio Mansion) on Rigillis Street. This is a two-storey Neo-Baroque building, a characteristic example of eclecticism, completed in 1932. It was designed by architect Alexandros Nikoloudis and covers an area of 8,270 square meters. It is named after the great national benefactor, Officer Petros Saroglou. The opening of the Conference will start with spectacular performances and conclude with the GALA dinner and dance.

Saturday, November 15, 2025

At 9:30 a.m., the work of our Conference will begin at the Royal Olympic Hotel and is expected to conclude at 5:30 p.m., with coffee breaks and a light lunch at midday. It will be an interactive conference with distinguished and prominent speakers and moderators.

At 8:30 p.m., we will have the farewell dinner, an exquisite meal in a wonderful setting on the 7th floor of the Royal Olympic Hotel, overlooking the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

Sunday, November 16, 2025

In the spirit of continuing the connections formed during our conference, we will have the opportunity to either take a guided tour of the Acropolis Museum or visit the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, including a lunch, depending on participation by delegates and their escorts.

GREECE

ANCIENT SPIRIT - MODERN VISION

History - Info 1

Greece is a country in southeastern Europe, a member of the European Union, with a population of 10,500,000 according to the 2021 census.

The vast blue—in all its shades, from the sky that embraces it to the sea that surrounds it—combined with the sunlight that graces most days of the year, offers visitors the peace they seek.

The name “Greece” (Hellas) refers to the modern Greek state, established after the Greek Revolution of 1821. However, this land has long been the cradle of a civilization that gifted the world with a rich legacy in science, philosophy, and the arts—and was the birthplace of democracy, the political system that respects the voice of the people.

Situated at a crossroads of trade and ideas, ancient civilizations thrived here as early as the Stone Age. During the Bronze Age (circa 3000–1100 BC), three major civilizations emerged: the Cycladic, the Minoan, and later the Mycenaean. The following millennium, culminating in the 5th century BC, witnessed an extraordinary cultural flourishing that still inspires the world today.

History - Info 2

Homer, Hesiod, Pindar, Sappho, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Thucydides, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Diogenes, Demosthenes, Archimedes, Galen, Phidias, Praxiteles, Solon, Pericles, Pythagoras, Alexander the Great, and Leonidas of Sparta—these are just some of the names that left an indelible mark on global civilization and continue to inspire the world today.

Poetry, theater, history, philosophy, rhetoric, geometry, medicine, the arts, and politics were developed in Greece to the highest degree, laying the foundations for Western thought and culture.

Yet, it is not only antiquity that shaped Greek civilization. Greece’s cultural and intellectual contributions continued throughout the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and modern periods, evolving alongside each era’s unique historical and social context.

Greece and culture are inseparable from language, for language is the essence of the Greek identity. It is a language spoken “on Homer’s sandy shores,” as the Nobel Laureate Odysseas Elytis so poetically wrote—a language that gives depth and shape to experiences, emotions, and concepts often untranslatable into other tongues.

One such concept is “filotimo”, a deeply rooted value in the soul of the Greek people, encompassing honor, dignity, and a heartfelt sense of duty toward others. It is expressed daily through generosity and hospitality, the enduring hallmarks of Greek culture.

History - Info 3

Since ancient times, Greek hospitality (philoxenia) has been a deeply rooted institution and a moral duty. Even through the harshest of times, it has never lost its value. From the warm welcome of a stranger to sharing a meal of traditional delicacies, the guest is treated as family—feeling truly at home.

The capital of Greece, Athens, is renowned for its more than 3,000 years of history, reaching its pinnacle during the Golden Age of Pericles (5th century BC), while maintaining a dynamic presence in the modern world. With a population of approximately 4 million, it is the most densely populated city in the country.

The Parthenon, a 5th-century BC architectural masterpiece by Ictinus and Callicrates, stands proudly atop the Acropolis hill. It is the most iconic monument of the ancient world, dominating the skyline and living on in the collective consciousness as a symbol of universal values such as Art and Democracy.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Acropolis, along with the Monastery of Daphni—which reflects the city’s Byzantine heritage—bear witness to a civilization whose legacy continues to inspire humanity

History - Info 4

Athens has been the capital of Greece since 1834. Once a small town at the foot of the Acropolis, it gradually evolved into a modern metropolis and the center of the country’s economic, political, and cultural life.

Just 9 kilometers from the capital lies Piraeus, the largest port in Greece and the “seaport of Athens.” Its strategic location in Attica, in the southeastern part of mainland Greece, offers residents and visitors easy access to the sea and the islands.

Athens is home to a wide variety of museums—both large and small—that showcase exhibits of immense aesthetic and historical value. Among the most prominent are the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis Museum, both housing some of the world’s most significant collections of ancient art.

The Attic sky that stretches above the city—clear and blue on most days of the year—lifts the spirits of residents and visitors alike, offering moments of light even amidst the challenges of daily life.

Visitors to Athens can not only immerse themselves in its cultural wealth—both outdoors and in museums—but also enjoy short coastal trips along the Attica Riviera, all the way to Cape Sounion and the famed Temple of Poseidon, where one can dream while watching the sun set into the Aegean Sea

Get to Know the Rotary Intercountry Committee

Rotary Intercountry Committee (ICC) is a relationship between two or more Rotary districts or countries working together to increase fellowship and promote peace, friendship, and international understanding across borders.

Rotary ICCs may represent either national relationships (ICC National Sections) or sub-national relationships between two or more countries.

The core mission of ICCs is to strengthen fellowship and cultural exchange among members, clubs, and districts from different nations. Their activities embody Rotary’s Fourth Avenue of Service: international understanding, goodwill, and peace.

The paired sections maintain close communication, exchange information about Rotary events, and share regional publications. They collaborate and leverage their bilateral networks of Rotarians to help clubs implement effective humanitarian projects.
